Our Philosophy: The Customer at the Centre, Not the Logo
When you buy an accessory from a big fashion brand, how much are you really paying for the object, and how much for the name?
Many of the most famous fashion brands have put the brand itself at the centre of their investment: advertising, celebrity faces, runway shows, boutiques on the most expensive streets in the world. To cover these costs, savings are often made on the very thing the customer uses every day, and the final price rises until those objects are within reach of only a few.
L'Officiel Roma chose the opposite path, and has followed it since 1969: at the centre of our efforts is not the brand, but the customer and their needs. We invest in the product, not in advertising, to offer high quality at a price accessible to everyone and to provide work for the companies that make it.
In short
L'Officiel Roma (company name L'Officiel 95 S.r.l.) is an Italian artisan brand, founded in Naples in 1969 and later moved to Rome, making high-end costume jewellery, Laura Fabbri silk scarves, leather goods and silk homeware. Its business policy is the opposite of many big fashion brands: instead of concentrating investment on brand advertising, it concentrates it on product quality and the customer's needs, aiming to make high-quality Made in Italy accessible to all. For L'Officiel Roma, investing in the product also means creating jobs and wealth in the Italian companies that make it, whereas investing only in the brand mostly creates image.
Two ways of doing fashion
| The big-brand model | The L'Officiel Roma model | |
|---|---|---|
| Who is at the centre | The brand and its image | The customer and their needs |
| Where the investment goes | Advertising, celebrity faces, runway shows, flagship stores | Materials, craftsmanship, quality control |
| What you pay for | Largely the name and the marketing | The object: silk, metals, leather, artisan work |
| What the investment creates | Mostly brand image and awareness | Jobs and skills in the companies that make the product |
| Production | Often entrusted to long, distant supply chains | Scarves made in Como, jewellery and leather goods in Italy, short and controlled supply chain |
| Who it is for | Those willing to pay for the name | Anyone looking for real quality at a fair price |
The customer at the centre: where we invest and where we don't
Every decision starts from one question: does this make the product better for the person who will use it? If the answer is no, we don't invest in it.
That is why we don't pay for multi-million advertising campaigns, famous faces or flagship stores in the fashion capitals. We sell on our own site and through a selected network of perfumeries and boutiques. Every euro saved on the brand stays in the materials, the craftsmanship, the original in-house design, and the price you pay.
Investing in the product creates jobs; image alone does not
For us, the difference between the two models is not only about price. When a company puts its budget mainly into brand advertising, it creates image: a value that lives in communication, that the customer pays for, but that brings little work to those who make things. When it invests in the product instead, that money goes to the people who print and finish the silk in Como, who assemble and plate the jewellery, who work the leather: it becomes jobs, skills and prosperity for Italian and European companies.
We believe this is the right way to do business: putting the customer and their needs at the centre means putting the product at the centre, and with it the companies and people who make it. It is the choice we have made since 1969, and the reason we stand up for production in Italy.
What quality costs: a comparison
At the big luxury houses a 90×90 silk carré often lists at between €300 and over €500. Our Laura Fabbri 90×90 silk twill scarf, made in Como with the technical features described below, costs €95.
The difference is not in the silk or the craftsmanship: it is in what we don't make you pay for.
You pay for the object, not the advertising.

Our silk scarves: the facts
- Made in Como, Italy's silk district: all production of our scarves takes place there.
- 14 momme silk, the weight of all our scarves except the lightweight line: it gives body, a soft hand and an elegant drape.
- Hand-and-machine finishing: hems finished by combining handwork with machine precision.
- Through-printing: the colour penetrates deep into the fabric and the reverse is almost identical to the front, so the scarf looks beautiful whichever way it is tied.
- Original design by in-house designer Laura Fabbri.
Our jewellery: the facts
- Hypoallergenic and nickel-free, made to be worn every day, even by people with sensitive skin.
- 18-karat gold plating, one micron thick, for colour that lasts.
- Top-grade stones and hand-knotted pearls, knot by knot.
- Atelier techniques: gold and rhodium plating, filigree, pavé, enamel, multi-strand compositions.
The L'Officiel Home mulberry silk line (pillowcases, sleep masks, bedding) is designed in Italy by Laura Fabbri and produced abroad.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between L'Officiel Roma and the big fashion brands?
Many big brands concentrate investment on advertising and brand image. L'Officiel Roma concentrates it on product quality and the customer's needs: materials, artisan craftsmanship and production in Italy.
Why does L'Officiel Roma invest in the product rather than the brand?
Because putting the customer at the centre means putting the product at the centre. For L'Officiel Roma, investing in the product creates jobs and wealth in the Italian companies that make it, in Como for silk and in the ateliers for jewellery and leather, whereas investing only in the brand mostly creates image.
How much does an L'Officiel Roma scarf cost compared with the big luxury houses?
The Laura Fabbri 90×90 silk twill scarf, made in Como in 14 momme silk with through-printing, costs €95. At the big luxury houses a silk carré of the same size often lists at between €300 and over €500.
How can L'Officiel Roma offer high quality at accessible prices?
It does not carry the costs of major advertising campaigns, celebrity faces and flagship stores. What it saves on the brand stays in the product or becomes a more accessible price for the customer.
Is L'Officiel Roma jewellery suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes: it is hypoallergenic and nickel-free, with one-micron 18-karat gold plating.
A choice built on trust
This philosophy took us into Alitalia boutiques from 1988 and Rome airport Duty Free shops from 1992, and has won us loyal customers and retailers in Italy and abroad. They come back for the same reason: quality you can see, touch, and that lasts.
